Speaker Bio

Burke L Kernen is an optical engineer and Senior Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories. Burke graduated from New Mexico State University with a BSEE specializing in electro-optics (1993).  He worked for 17 years as a diagnostics engineer for Credence Systems and Tektronix prior to joining the Non-Destructive Evaluation group at Sandia.

Burke’s career at Sandia includes being a recognized subject matter expert in Computed Tomography of nano-scale devices all the way up to large scale systems and as a field radiography specialist for emergency response. His current work profile includes the training of explosive ordnance personnel in all aspects of radiographic imaging and research and development for equipment and techniques to improve field imaging diagnostics.  The R&D portion of his work also includes evaluation and oversight of emerging technology to ensure proper integration into the final acceptance process for use by emergency response teams.
